Meet the Owner

Alex D.A house built as a work of art is a masterpiece you don’t merely admire. It’s the one you live in, and wake up inside.

Alex owns Dream Homes Remodeling. Whitestone-born, trained through Carpenters Union Local 45, and on every job himself from the first measurement to the last coat of paint. He treats a kitchen, a bathroom or a whole floor the way an artist treats a canvas: it has to be right, and it has his name on it.

The Artist Behind the Work

“Every project is an extension of me. I won’t settle for anything less than my best.”

— Alex D.

Alex D. was born and raised in Whitestone, Queens, and he was an artist before he was a builder. As a kid his drawings ended up on the walls at school. His teachers noticed. His parents kept them. The eye for proportion, light and how a space should feel was there long before the tools were, and it is still the first thing he brings to a job.

He grew up in a household run by hardworking Italian immigrants. His father, Tony, owned and operated Matese Pizzeria on Francis Lewis Boulevard for 40 years. Long before social media, it was known as one of the top Sicilian pizzerias in New York. That reputation was never marketed into existence. It was earned one right-done day at a time, and it taught Alex early that the work itself is the advertisement.

The pizzeria was only half the story. Tony was also a builder. He bought Whitestone homes one at a time, restored them properly, and helped lift the standard of what a house on these blocks could be. That patient work, by Tony and a small group of other early local builders, is part of why Whitestone became the neighborhood it is. Alex grew up watching it: the discipline of doing it right, and the pride of leaving a place better than you found it.

After studying design, Alex trained in the trade through a Carpenters Union Local 45 apprenticeship. That gave the artist a builder's hands. Design sense and jobsite fundamentals became the working method for Dream Homes Remodeling when he founded the company: every room is planned like a composition and built like it has to last. The result is what his clients call a work of art you can live in, and what Alex calls the only way he knows how to work.

How We Work

What it feels like when the builder is also the artist.

Same person, start to finish.

From the first walkthrough to the last coat of paint, the person you talk to is Alex. No project-manager handoff, no crew you've never met showing up on day one, no salesperson who disappears once the deposit clears. If you texted about your kitchen at 8pm, Alex is the one who texted back.

Real numbers. No surprises.

Every proposal is itemized: labor, materials, allowances, timeline. If something has to change mid-job (and on a real renovation, sometimes it does), you get a written change order before anything moves. No "we'll sort it out at the end." No vague allowances that quietly double.

Looks right. Holds up.

Alex trained as a finish carpenter, so the details are where the art lives: reveal lines, scribe cuts, how tile meets a wood floor, how a cabinet meets a beam. He's also a structural GC, so there is honest engineering underneath the finish. A Dream Homes room is meant to look the same on day one as it does ten years in.

Family Trade

A trade passed down. Father to son.

My father taught me how to work with my hands before I ever picked up a set of plans. Fifteen years later he's still on jobsites with me. Same standards, same eye for detail, same reason clients keep calling us back.

Dream Homes isn't a big company. It's a family that shows up.

Reputation

15 years in. Still mostly word of mouth.

Dream Homes has never leaned on ads to fill the calendar. The work fills it. Neighbors see a renovation go up on the block, or a friend walks into a finished kitchen, and the phone rings. That's the model, and Alex likes it that way. It keeps everyone honest.

FAQ

Stuff people usually ask.

Do you actually pull the permits?

Yes. NYC DOB filings and Nassau County permits are handled in-house, so you don't get sent to a separate expediter you've never met. If a job needs an architect or PE stamp, Alex brings in the same partners he's worked with for years.

How big are your jobs?

Anywhere from a $22k co-op cosmetic refresh to a full gut renovation on a two-family home. What matters more than size is fit. Alex takes on jobs where the work will be interesting and the client will be reasonable to work with.

Who's actually on my jobsite every day?

Alex, plus a small core crew of carpenters, tile setters, painters, and finish guys who've worked together for years. Same faces day one, day twenty, day the last piece of trim goes on. Licensed plumbers and electricians come in when the scope calls for them, and they're the same trusted partners we've used across hundreds of Queens homes.

How fast can you start?

Depends on the season and the scope, but usually 4 to 8 weeks out for a kitchen or bathroom, longer for a full gut. If your timeline is tight, tell us early and we'll be straight about what's realistic.

Get in Touch

Show Alex the space.

Send a few photos of what you're thinking about: a kitchen you've outgrown, a bathroom that needs a redo, a whole floor you want opened up. Alex reads every message himself and comes back with an honest read on cost, timeline, and whether it's a good fit. If it is, he'll build it like it's his own.
